Clinging to Jesus

We woke up Monday morning to more snow.  We are so ready for Spring!!

So glad to turn the calendar page today!  We reached the 1/2 point during this month to Pascal's return.  We are so ready to be together as a family again.

When we arrived in Germany over two years ago. It was the middle of the school year and Owen had a terrible time transitioning.  I thought for sure it was the connection he had with his teacher or culture shock but after meeting with the guidance counselor, Mr. G.  he assured me it was a classic case of separation anxiety.  He told me that five minutes. after I left Owen was completely fine and had fun with the other children.  It was a very testing time for me because everyday before school we had tears upon tears, tantrums and a daily battle just to get him into the car.

I prayed and prayed asking God what I was suppose to do.  I felt in my heart that God did not want me to rescue Owen from this situation.  As a military family we are going to have a lifetime of transitions.  New schools, new homes new everything.  I wanted Owen to learn that yes it is uncomfortable and not fun but we have to trust God to get us through all things new.

I will never forget one day in particular.  It was time for school and Owen was crying and having a tantrum.  We got to the school parking lot and I had to literally wrestle him out of the car.  Once out of the car he would be a "rag doll" and wouldn't stand or walk. I began the dragging process to the school building.  The bell rings and we aren't even out of the parking lot.  After, about 10 minutes of trying to drag and carry him I see the principal coming towards us. Owen goes into complete panic mode and hides behind some huge bushes.  She tells me that two more guidance counselors are on the way to help.  Owen is eyeing us from behind the bushes and then darts behind a mountain of snow that had been scraped in the parking lot.  This is totally embarrassing and I am thinking this is not happening.  But it gets worse.

After few minutes the guidance counselors arrive. The whole time they are on walkie talkies like this is some kind of special operation.  When Owen sees them he runs out from the mountain of snow and runs towards a Handicap Parking pole.  That's right a Handicap parking pole!! In complete fear he is bear hugging the pole.  Mr. G sets a plan into motion. He tells the Principal to go back towards the school in case he runs that way.  He tells the other counselor to go out into the street in case the runs that way and he looks at me and says, "In a second I am going to go and peel him off that pole and when I say "GO" I need you to go as fast as you can, get in your car and leave."   He says, "go" and he heads towards Owen.  I run to my little mini orange rental car and try to leave as quick as I can the whole time watching in my rear view mirror seeing a terrified little boy with such fear and panic in his eyes.  I am crying hysterically and hit the curb as I am trying to make this quick exit.
It was absolutely horrible!  On the drive home Mr. G calls me and says Owen is completely fine and within 10 min. calmed down and went right to class.  Owen and I often walked past that parking pole and he would say, "Mom, do you remember that day?"

We were in Heidelberg last weekend visiting our old base and we drove by that very pole I couldn't help but remember that day. I asked Owen to get out so I could take a picture of him. Little did I know that God would use that picture with me this week.  This week I have struggled with fear and anxiety.  I decided to print this picture out and keep it in my Bible as a constant reminder to not cling to fear but rather Jesus.

Finding Treasures!

We started off our weekend by treating ourselves to the food court on Friday night. I gave each of the kids a quarter and they were thrilled to actually use the candy machines!

I had seen an advertisement for a Government Warehouse sell.  This sounded like something right up my ally. So off we went in search of the rare, the interesting the deal!!
Lots of glass wear! All pieces were 5 cents!  That's right  5 cents!
Snowboards and skies!
Bowling shoes!!
And then I saw it. A piece that wasn't even marked for sale.  An old metal librarian's book cart!  I asked a lady if she would sell it and she said, sure would you give me $15 dollars for it? I suppressed my squeal and said, "Oh yes, that would be great!"  So out we rolled with our new slightly retro, very unique and oh so me... library cart!
Meg and I gave her a good Magic Eraser wipe down!

Here she is in all her glory... the new art cart!

We also bought these little Christmas Trees for a quarter each.

I selected these 3 little candle holders.

We also stopped by our old Thrift Store in Heidleberg and found all of these items for $1.50.

It was a great day.  It was so good to get out, it snowed the whole day and we were thankful to get home safe.

Our Week!

We ventured out to a park that had deer and lots of other animals.

We biked and ran to a new park.
Meg helped me make lasagna, we froze them in bread pans.  I discovered this is a good portion for the 3 of us.
My #1 helper!

Go Team Go!

They have been having high school basketball championships here for the last two weeks.  After we finish at the gym we usually watch the cheerleaders for at least 30 min.  Meg is fascinated by them and totally into it!  Her cousin Abigail is also a cheerleader and she LOVES all things Abigail.  Meg has been a cheering Machine this week! Below is a little video of her doing a cheer...I love how Owen gets in on the action as well!

Meg said if she was a cheerleader she would be the one with the cone!

We've been trying to make the best of the weather here but it is not always easy.  According to the weather channel we recieved 15 min. of sunlight for ALL of last week!  We try to remain positive but we truly do miss the sun.  We still try to get out a least once a day even when we are in the 30's. We headed up the street to this park near our house.
I didn't realize my camera was on some weird setting so the next few pictures were odd but according to Owen they were "Cool!"

Dear Sun,
We would really like to see you.  Life isn't as much fun when you aren't around.  Please come and visit us in Germany.
Your friends, Owen and Meg

Sometimes, when we don't know what to do we head down the road a short ways and visit Ikea.
We will look around and grab a little lunch.
Across the street is a Toys R Us!  The kids love to go in there and look.
Meg selected a cleaning kit.  She is like her Momma - she loves to clean!
Owen selected a Star Wars key chain.
Aunt Michelle introduced us to these little yummies and Meg has been asking me and asking me to make them.  They are the best little treat to make with kids because they are super easy, don't make and mess and Meg spent at least 45 min. by herself in the kitchen making these.
She unwrapped all the Hershey Kisses.

Then she put them on little square preztels.
I melted them in the oven on a super low temp for about 3 min. and then everybody got in on the action of squishing a M&M on the top of them.  Owen loved this part!
They are amazingly good and Meg was so proud of herself for making them! Thanks Aunt Michelle for sharing this great idea!

Our Week!

Meg and I took the camera along on one of our runs.

Meg has loved this hat that Mimi made for her.  She also loved making this necklace that Mimi send her, she chose the charm that said, "100% Me"  I thought that was so perfectly fitting for her.
We went to Family Bingo Night at Owen's school.  We played four cards and played every version of bingo you can think of: H Bingo, full board, striaght line, just the edges, and even a round where you had to stand up and only sit down if she called a number on your board.  The last person standing was the winner.  We played for 2 hours but never got bingo, Meg was a bit dissapointed.
Meg is a game girl!  She loves and I mean loves games!!
This is Owen's Valentine stash from school.
Owen could have cared less about opening the cards and looking at who gave what.  On the other hand Meg was super into looking at each card and looking at all the goodies.
Owen was only  interested in this one piece of candy shaped like a hamburger.  I don't know why but I find it so funny what 8 year old boys find interesting!

I had this great idea to have a bowling and pizza Valentine's night!! But they were cleaning the lanes so we couldn't bowl (boooo)  soooo we just got pizza and came back to the house.
Owen also celebrated 100 days of school this week.  I found this bookmark in his bookbag, it made me smile!
The kids and I worked super hard last night and helped wrap up 100 roses for Pascal's unit for a fundraiser.  This morning Meg and I spend the morning selling the roses and some bake goods.  The soliders bought up all 100 roses in under 2 hours.  I like to think we helped make alot of ladies happy today!
