A Sunday Drive

Today, we got into our car with no plan, no map and no idea where we were going to go. So we just drove and ended up in a little town called Dilsberg.  Only in Europe will a little random town have castle ruins, beautiful churches and lovely little cafes. So here are some pics from our afternoon!

I think we'll head off into the unknown more often.  We love finding new places and just seeing where the Lord will lead us!

Confessions

From this video you will see that throwing birthday parties is not my gift.  I look at other moms who make the most adorable cakes, design cutsy little gift bags and have amazing decorations and I am in awe.  I on the other hand had Owen help me put up a streamer... yes that is correct A Streamer and then it was on to the balloons.  Decorations.....check.
Next presents, we bought Owen a game weeks ago when he was with us and we told him he couldn't have it until his birthday.. this is so cruel.  I am embarressed to say I didn't even wrap it because I figured he already knew what it was. Presents... check.  Next... cake.  We bought one from a German bakery and it was terrible.  Pascal liked it but it wasn't sweet enough for me so the birthday cake was a bomb. But the candles were cool.  The great thing is we enjoyed our little "party" and that is all that counts.

Owen turns 6!

Exploring

Here is a picture from the Speyer Technik Museum.  Look closely and you will see a slide that comes from the belly of the Boeing 747 all the way to the ground.  It was so cool, you get a carry up a little carpet to the top, sit on the carpet and down you go!

Owen loves helicopters and airplanes, this was a perfect place for him.  We also got to go to the IMAX theater where we saw
"Walking on the Moon" - in German!

Here we are at an awsome place called "Kid Zone" in Eppelheim. It had these cool blow up slides, tramplolines and a ball pit.  The kids loved it and only 3 euro!  Mom liked that part!

Meg loved these little bikes.  You can also see here the outfit she chose to dress herself in.  Leggings, a skirt, and two different socks.  When I suggested something else she was not happy so I chose not to fight this battle.

The ball pit!

This museum was full of odd stuff, everything from tanks to organs, motorcycles and space suits.

Around Town

Our Apartment building, we are at the very top!The window at the far right is where Meg's room is, the windows in the middle are the stairwell  and the window with the small white dot in it is our kitchen (the dot is a little lamp in the window.)

When we moved to Leimen we thought these were ski lifts because they move and look just like them but... they are actually big buckets transporting concrete.  That's right... our little towns claim to fame is concrete!  There is a huge factory with two huge smoke stacks right down the street.  You can see Leimen from most anywhere in Heidelberg.. just look for the smoke stacks.

Don't like to post pics of myself but this is one proud momma, so full of praise that her son is finally enjoying school!

This is what the town's center looks like. Meg and I love to go exploring on our morning walks.

At the playground

Base playgrounds are always great but we thought the one in Heidelberg is especially cool!

Today, we were in an accident. The Lord was so good and no one was hurt but our little honda took a good hit to the front side. It was not our fault. We were heading down a road and a truck pulled right out in front of us and crash! So now we can say we experienced the German police. On day 5 we headed to the emergency room in a german ambulance so we are adding to our list: German police. This was not on our list of things to do in Europe but it happens and so we are know asking God to help us find the right people to fix it and all the details that come with getting a car repaired.

Poor little Honda

Weekend in Switzerland

This weekend we headed to Switzerland to spend time with Pascal's family. We ate all the traditional Swiss favorite: cheese fondue, chocolate croissants, and crepes. We also celebrated Owen and Kylian's birthday. Owen is turning 6 and Kylian is turning 5 so we thought a double birthday would be fun. The weather was amazing which allowed us to see the Alps! We went went to the church Pascal attended when he was young and saw a very dear lady that had a hand in Pascal's walk with the Lord. They had not see each other since 1988, 24 years ago! It was very special to see them reunite. We drove by the house his grandmother lived in and enjoyed showing Meg and Owen where he went to school and grew up. It was a great time!

German Court Ruling......This article made me laugh!

A Germany Court Ruling has made it legal for bosses to regulate whether or not their female employees must wear bras. The regulations made by the court also allow business to mandate fingernail length as well as both head and facial hair grooming.

Germany women bras court ruling:

The verdict is in and a German court has ruled that is allowable for a business to mandate whether their female employees must wear bras to work or not. The court decided this week that it was not a infringement upon personal rights for a boss to require employees to wear bras, keep their fingernails clipped to certain lengths, or keep beards a certain length.

“Being told to wear a bra and to keep fingernails to shorter than half-a-centimetre does not impinge on personal rights,” ruled the court in Cologne. “It is not a disproportionate impairment of personal rights.”

The fact that this went to court seems foolish to me. If you don’t want to wear a bra or cut your fingernails you don’t have to. But at the same time I don’t think the employer has to keep you employed. If you don’t want to dress appropriately for the position you are in then you don’t get to keep the job. My work has a no flip flop policy. If I want to wear flips flops I do it at home or away from work, why because I work in a business setting and flip flops are inappropriately attire. I salute the German court for making a smart decision. Dress code should be applied by the company not the employees. If you don’t want to follow it find a different job.

Same goes for fingernail and beard length. In fact let’s just lump all personal hygiene into one big group and say that if you don’t take care of yourself you are gross and probably unemployable anyway.

My point is I agree with the German courts ruling on women’s bras, if you don’t like it find someplace to work that will let you leave the over the shoulder boulder holder at home.

New Year's Eve in Heidelberg

We have never seen so many fireworks at one time.  Everyone in every neighborhood was shooting them off, it lasted over an hour..... it was amazing and the video doesn't do it justice but just gives you an idea of what it was like....crazy!

Keep Breathing.....Keep Believing

I know someday I will look back and laugh at these days, but right now they are so tough.  Owen is having a rough time adjusting to school. Every morning is such a task in getting him to school.  We've met with a counselor and he is helping Owen, but it is so hard to see my little guy go through this.  I could take the pain away by not making him  go to school but... God has called our family to the military and with that comes lots of changes and lots of adjustments and yes, new schools, and being the "new" kid.  Our life will be full of newness and I feel it is better for him to learn that Momma can't rescue you!  It stinks and it's hard and it would be a lot easier to play with toys at home but each day we are each called to do our job.  So today, I pray for my Owen and ask you God to help him make friends and have a great day at school.  "I Cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.  He sends from heaven and saves me, God sends his love and his faithfulness." Ps. 57:3
