Last week was a bit of an "off week"

I called the doctor about some marks on Meg's foot. I was concerned they could be some kind of bites but it ends up the nurse thinks they were old blisters that healed under the skin.  Anyway, when I called the doctor they couldn't see us for weeks so they told us to just go up to the Med clinic that sees people on a first come basis.  It opened at 10 and I thought if we got there when it opened we should be fine.  Well, it ended up taking FOREVER but I was thankful they weren't bites.

While we are waiting for the nurse Owen's flip- flop broke!  Classic... just where you want your child going barefoot.... a doctor's office!  I told Owen he could not go barefoot, he just couldn't!! This place is full of germs ...You will just have to slide your way out of the clinic!  So as we were leaving it totally looked like Owen was the one we came into the clinic for.  It really looked like he had a bum leg by the way he was walking.   Meg and I were walking a little ways in front of him and a lady passed me and said, "That poor kid, he is really have a rough time."

 In other Owen news:
I saw this towel covered in dirt and asked Owen what happened.  Without missing a beat and being totally serious he said, "Oh yea, about that, after I showered I was drying off and realized I didn't wash my legs too well."

He likes to dress up as a WWII solider and this makes me smile.

He also likes to rearrange his windowsill.  This week he made this scene.

And well.... we sometimes have rough days.  But at the end of the day HE always hugs me, says sorry and we just move on.

look at the state of this other pair of flip flops I found at the house.   They promptly went into the trash.  I bet he's asked me about 20 times where his brown flip flops are??

and Miss Meg... she is my girly girl who loves words.  I am sure her love language is written words because she leaves me notes all the time.  I didn't get a picture but she sent her best friends who moved away a little package and they texted her saying they got it the very same day she got a letter from them!!  So cool how friendship works!!
She left me this first place ribbon with a little note.

I found this picture while cleaning out the basement, it was on our honeymoon in Charleston 14 years ago.  Owen gave me a huge compliment even though I don't think he realized he did.  He said, "mom you look basically the same... Dad has really changed!!"
I showed Meg later and she said, "mom you look the same but Daddy's hair is really different!"

so true all that hair has been buzzed off

This is a big week for the Reber Clan.  We are having a picnic, a ceremony and are wrapping up some things before the move.
This 5 star general is a little anxious about the coming weeks but I know God will pull us through!

I took the kids to hear Scotty Smiley's story.  What a field trip this was!  You tell your kids about heroes but they got to shake two heroes hands today.  Scotty's and his wife.  Below is a video that tells his story.  More pics at the bottom of the blog.

Our Week

We enjoyed a church picnic

Meg making pancakes - a favorite around here
We attended a homeschooler's explorer class at the local library.  It was about floods.  They showed pictures of how Junction City has flooded over the years and then did a little experiment.
neighborhood shenanigans
as of late there as been a lot of drama in the neighborhood.  Somebody gets their feelings hurt and then they declare they are no longer "friends" with anyone.   This has happened again and again and I am a little weary of it.  We have had to have lots of talks... it seems that with pre-teens comes drama!

It is very interesting and entertaining to watch.  I peer out Meg's window and watch it all go down!!  It's like a sitcom!

Here is text I got from Owen this morning while finishing a run.  Please note the time: 8:03 AM!!

Amy sent us a box of perler beads and the kids went to work!!  Thank you Amy.
Meg's 3 D bicycle
A spider web covered with early morning dew.  It was hard to catch in a photo it was huge.

So Pascal competed in a trivia contest.  WE were all super excited because Pascal is really good at trivia!! They were advertising that they were giving away 10,000 dollars worth of prizes!!  WE all felt confident Pascal would win something.  The kids and I stayed home because you had to be 18 to be in the audience.  Anyway, we were crossing our fingers in the hope he would walk in the door saying, " I won a ......"

Well, it ends up he won a hat and a free game of bowling.   and check out the free game of bowling it says shoes NOT included.  Oh well!!

Here is the hat!  Way to go Pascal for trying!! it was probably the pop culture that got him.

Scotty Smiley came to post and it was amazing to hear from him and his wife.  We got to eat lunch and hear them speak.

He signed his book for Owen and Meg

and that's what we've been up to!

Reber Round - Up!

We are studying medieval times this year so we headed to the Renaissance Festival in Kansas City. This was quite the adventure.

There was a lot to see.

A think  just seeing the people in costumes was most entertaining.

Making our own coat of arms

Time for Apple Day                                 Early morning set up

 Some paint ball

We headed out to the Konza Prairie.  I'm embarrassed that we have lived in KS over 2 years and did not know about this hike.

On Sunday Pascal ran a marathon.  He will say it was his third.  I will say it was his fifth.  He doesn't count the one he did as a ruck march, carrying 30lbs on his back, or the one he did over a period of 24 hours in which he would run for a hour and then take an hour off.  I say if you do over 26 miles in a 24 hour period ....its a marathon!

Pre-Race
 At the start line
 Feeling ready
and they are off.... check out this guy who ran barefoot!  That's right 26.2 miles with no shoes.

 Half way!!
 Last lap.
 Finished

Pascal and some of his guys that ran it
Here goes the barefoot guy agin.  When we left he was still out there.....  we cheered for him each time he passed.  Meg and Owen were super into cheering for this guy and I think they felt bad for him but it was his choice to run this way.  Each time he would go by Owen would yell, "you've got this!!"
And meg would yell, "looking good!"  This made me smile!!
 Early mornings in KS.

I will wrap it up with a few quotes from Owen this week.  Lately, the things he says, just crack me up.

DEEP THOUGHTS BY OWEN

Owen -"Mom, I'm hungry to the Maximus"

Owen - "Mom, you know those things that blow good smelling air into a room?
Me - you mean like an air fresher?
Owen - "yea! I want one that pushes out the smell of bacon or the smell of Lowes into my room.  I just love the smell of wood or bacon."

Owen - "Mom, when a tree dies will it be in heaven?"

Owen - "Hey mom! you know what I love.... I love to break open a tatter tot and see the smoke and then extinguish it into the ketchup!"

"Mom, I'm hungry"  - Which I hear about 20 times a day!

and that my friends........is a wrap!!!
