Weekly Round-Up

School kicked into gear here this past week so I don't have as many pictures.  HIS Academy is up and running!  I'm very close to the principle, librarian, lead teacher, custodian, secretary and substitute teacher...word on the block is....It's going to be a great year!!

Meg loves checking out cookbooks at the Library.  So this week she was inspired by this cookie recipe.  She made a list, we headed to the store and she got all her ingredients.

This girl loves to be in the kitchen.

Final product!! and boy were they delish!!
We headed to Kansas City over the weekend and on the way home checked out some gardens in Topeka.

Meg requested a picture of her and Pascal

Meg and I are always checking thrift stores for books.  This week we found this little pile plus several others for just 3 dollars!!   We also snagged a beautiful hardcover, never been used copy of Charlotte's Web.  We already have a paper copy but I told her we would replace this one with the one we have at home.  Once home I went to the shelf where I keep all the books we have read together and I went to replace Charlotte's Web.  But I just couldn't do it.  I can remember reading this to the kids, and I remember where we were when we read it and how Wilbur and Charlotte became part of our family!!  So now we have 2 copies.  Meg and I are known to squeal at thrift stores when we find a book that we LOVE!  and squeal even louder if it is book that we borrowed from the library and then find it at the thrift store!

Meg and I are on the hunt for the following books at thrift stores, they were our final summer reads.    We borrowed them from the library and they were AMAZING!!  Both quickly made the "OUR FAVORITE BOOK LIST."   These books touched our hearts!

and that's a wrap!

We then started the trip to Washington with a quick stop by Mt. Airy.  Home of Andy Griffith.  Meg and Owen are big fans of the show.  The kids love watching Barney and Andy!!

It was cool to see real items that sat on Andy's desk in the show!!

 Otis

Owen was super excited to see the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA.

Arlington was the next stop where we got to see the Changing of the Guard.

We walked a ton!!  Miles and miles and then a few more miles!!
 Botanical Gardens!

and a stop by Williamsburg.  I failed to get picture here because......

we met up with our bestie neighbors from Fort Riley!! The kids were thrilled to see their old buddies!!  We were so blessed to have them as neighbors and we hope our paths cross again!!

on a funny note....on one of my thrifting days I spotted this band uniform!  My brother Chris is the king of costumes.  I took a picture of it and texted it to him saying it could be this years Halloween costume.  Well, I decided to ask the clerk how much it would be because it wasn't marked.  The lady said, "well, it is two pieces.... so it would cost $2.00!!  I couldn't not pass this up so I totally bought this for the grand price of $2.00!!  My brother was all smiles!!  can't wait until October to see the "Drum Major" in full form!! This gives him plenty of time to work on a hat and baton!
my Dad decided to try on the jacket.
such fun and we made loads of memories.  Summer of 2016 we will miss you!!
