What We've been up to!

Last weeks task was to have the oil changed in our cars. This weeks task was to get all three of us to the dentist.  Owen went first and has a small cavity from not flossing well.  Thank goodness it is on a baby tooth but we have to get that taken care of.  Meg was up next... no cavities for her and she was told by the dentist that she does an excellent job brushing!  She brushes her own teeth so I was very proud of her.  Owen had a few tears as we left the office but I told him... no big deal we will do better flossing and cavities are just a part of life.  My appointment is Friday...here's to hoping I don't have any cavities.

Meg sets the table each night and she loves to have a center piece.  This particular one just made me smile.  I thought it was so creative!

Moving on to a few more outfits of Meg this week.  I have zero fashion sense and I love that Meg is all about fashion.   I also love that she tells me I am beautiful all the time!  I have a feeling she will be able to help me in this department.  She is already an excellent shopping buddy!

Owen has been doing a great job of journaling  Sometimes he chooses to write a letter.  He takes the camera takes pictures of stuff and then I print it out and he writes letters to family and friends.  Here he is working on a letter.

Third Grade is all about knowing your times tables.  So my goal for him this summer is that he would know them before school started.  I am a HUGE fan and believer in Times Tales. This is the most amazing little program and within two days he had learned all of the hard facts!  It is amazing, I would totally be a spokesperson for this program!  It has actually been fun learning the facts. Even Meg was into it!

Super hot here in Germany!  With no a/c and being at the top of stairwell living we are feeling it.  Thank goodness for fans and popsicles!

Meg's Fashion Update

I love how right before we leave to go somewhere Meg has to accessorize her outfit. Yesterday, she wore this.

Today, was thrift store day!  Yea!!   Meg wanted to check out the belts, so I said, "sure!"  Out of all these belts she selected two.  And her first pick was........

I will have to see what outfit she picks to use belt #2 on.  I am sure it will be blog worthy.

Owen on the other hand is like me and doesn't exactly get the whole fashion thing.  Here is his attempt:

Painting Rocks

Meg is a collector.  She collected little rocks along our journey through France and Italy.  I suggested painting them and so she set up shop one day and painted and painted and painted.

She worked for over 3 hours painting!
Here she is working hard!
The finished product drying on the patio.
Owen in the meantime found this pair of roller blades at the Thrift Store.  He used some of his allowance to buy them.  (they are a bit too big so we stuffed the toes with socks)

It's competition season so we headed off to some more Scottish Games this weekend.

Our Weekend!

We headed off to Asperg, Germany to some Scottish Games this weekend.

Here Meg and Owen are all registered for the Children's Games.  There were 6 different events for them to compete in. We decided to head to the obstacle course first.
Owen smoked the course in under 10 seconds!
Now to the log roll.  This was a bit more of challenge, that log did not want to roll in a straight direction.
Spitting Cherry seeds!  This event was the toughest for Owen and Meg!
They also competed in "throwing the boot" and "tossing the horse shoe"
They each scored a prize!

The band played through out the day.
A great day and we all came home tired!

Meg asked if she could tie her shoes like this....because..."it just looks better."

and that's a wrap!

What We've Been Up To

Here is one of Meg's famous outfits.  She came out of her room and said, "Mom, I like to call this my chocolate chip outfit....because I am all brown."  (Thank goodness we were only headed out for a bike ride.)

We've read some good books in the past few weeks.  Number the Stars really tied in with a lot of the historical places we have visited.

I was so fortunate one day at the thrift store and happened upon a bag of books a person had just dropped off.  We scored 20 books for $2.00 and there were some real treasures in there!  Here are the ones we have read so far.

A Nest for Celeste was a fabulous book about a little mouse who is looking for a home.  He meets Joseph a young boy who is Audubon's apprentice.  We LOVED the pictures in this book...this one was a winner!

Daisy Dawson -  reminds me so much of Meg. These books are about a little girl who can communicate with animals.  Meg's favorite character is the hound dog named Boom (he was born on the 4th of July). I love using my voice to create different accents for characters and this one was so much fun because each animal created a different opportunity to do that.
I had never heard of the Tiara Club but we are hooked!  These books are so cute.  The girls in these books are attending the Royal Palace Academy in order to becomes Perfect Princesses.  They always include a little lesson about being a true friend, how to treat others, or how a true Princess should act.  Meg LOVES these books!  I also think it is super cute how the author hides words in the pictures in the book in which you can find and then enter onto their website and print out different activity sheets.   The author Vivian French lives in Scotland and has written over 200 books!

Here Meg is working on some of her worksheets from the website!

We have collected many of the American Girl books from the Recycle Center.  We just finished this one. I really like them because they are period based.  This was one set during the Depression  and included real pictures of the time period at the end.

Owen hard at work on his journal.  He is on book 5 of the Andrew Lost series.
